A birthday party doubled as a closet cleanse

SPOTLIGHTJul 25, 2026

Bombay Closet Cleanse - founded by sisters Alfiya and Sana Khan, widely credited as India's first thrift platform and featured on Shark Tank India - usually runs buy-sell-swap-rent-donate out of Bandra West. For this one, they ran it inside someone's birthday party instead.

THE PARTY

Half birthday, half pop-up - a rack down one wall, cake down the other. Guests arrived with a bag to trade as often as a gift.

THE CLEANSE

The Bombay Closet Cleanse team ran the same buy-sell-swap-rent-donate model they use in Bandra West, so anything that didn't sell or swap still had a donate option rather than going home again.

THE AFTERMATH

A handful of guests left with pieces they'd been eyeing on the account for months and never bought. Turns out trying something on at a party beats scrolling a feed.

Bombay Closet Cleanse runs out of Bandra West if you want the everyday version.
